Goa-trance: open your mind and dance with the gods!

Goa-trance is a style of music, named after the famous resort in India, significant for the whole psychedelic culture of the second half of the twentieth century. Goa-trance is a strange mixture of club drive and aspiration for spiritual self-improvement.

Goa-trance, also called psychedelic trance, can safely claim the title of the most psychedelic musical direction that ever existed. In addition, behind the Goa-trance there is a whole culture connected by a town in India called Goa, where people who seek spiritual practice in strange ways have been going to rest for almost half a century.

Goa-trans is a fragment of the great psychedelic revolution of the 60s, which began to play with new colors in our boring and pragmatic 90s and zero. Despite the local binding in the name, the goa-trance is completely not local ethnic music, on the contrary, it is a cosmopolitan direction in a good sense, precisely because most DJs working in this genre, as well as listeners, perceive themselves more as citizens of the galaxy, even Without Drugs.

It′s difficult to judge unambiguously how they perceive themselves being directly behind the remote control or on the dance floor, it′s worth saying only that the culture of Goa-trance is penetrated by various mystical concepts, mostly of eastern origin. Goa-trance is popular music among active and free from prejudice young people who are looking for spiritual landmarks in the modern world. Despite numerous allusions to mystical teachings, the Goa-trance does not impose any definite picture of the world, it only reveals a sense of freedom.

Speaking directly about the nature of the sound, the goa-trance is relatively soft, against the background of other dance techno-styles, the rhythm is much less rigidly expressed, so this is music not only for dance, but also for meditation. Significantly greater importance, in comparison with the rhythm, is given to working with sound effects using a synthesizer or processing strange analog sounds. The rhythm is often set with the help of a hand drum, and the use of traditional Indian instruments such as sitar or sador is also found.

A characteristic feature of the style is the use of mantras or other religious chants. However, as in any trance music, sound effects made on the synthesizer, as well as mantras, often go in cycles in a psychedelic repetition, the choice of mantras is due not only to their religious meaning, but also to the sound features suitable for this musical reception.
